In most situations, after an individual has been through the cremation process, their remains will be placed in an urn and kept with a friend or family member. This is usually the standard practice, but in some cases, the individual may have wanted to be buried after cremation. Once you have started contacting funeral homes in Hilton, NY, to begin the process, here are some places where you can lay a loved one to rest after cremation.

With the popularity of cremation growing, there's a higher demand for having a space to place individuals who have been cremated, and one of those places is called a columbarium. They are above-ground buildings that are built specifically for holding urns. Once the vessel is placed inside, a plaque will generally be attached to the outside to help identify the individual's remains.

When it comes to burying an individual, you will need to purchase a grave to place the remains in, and another choice is to have the urn placed in a plot. One thing that makes this beneficial is that if a family or multiple individuals want to be buried together, this could house more than one person. In most cases, purchasing an urn vault is required, and these are in place to prevent the ground from caving around the plot.

Urn Garden

The next option is to choose a local cemetery to bury the individual. There may be a designated area Cold and urn garden that are landscaped sections of a cemetery that are specifically devoted to cremated individuals. There are some situations where they may be landscaping done, such as rock formations or other elements where the urns can be placed within the elements.

Private Property

If the individual had a piece of private land or knew someone that did, they may have requested to be buried specifically on that site. If there's a garden space or an area special to them, you might consider placing their remains in that section with a small memorial plaque to show their location.

Open Land

The last suggestion is to take their remains to a favorite National Park or outdoor area. Keep in mind that scattering the ashes might be a better alternative than burying the remains. Because the EPA protects these areas, there may be specific regulations that you will have to follow, so check with local authorities before moving forward with this action.
