Angelo A. Aleo

September 6, 1924 — June 27, 2023

Passed away June 27, 2023. Predeceased by wife Mary and brothers Joseph, Michael, & Peter. Survived by children Anthony (Carol) and Adelaide (Stephen) Goldman; loving companion Virginia "Jean" Piendel; grandchildren Christopher (Theresa) Heeg, Deborah (Eric) Luebbert, Nichole (Carlo) Santos, Eric (Maria) Heeg, Bridget (David) George; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

MASTER BARBER

Angelo started out sweeping the floors and sharpening razors at the age of 12 in his father’s Barber Shop. Officially he acquired his apprentice barber license in 1941 at age 17. By age 21 he had fulfilled all the requirements and skills to earn his Barber’s License in the city of Rochester. His barbering career spanned decades, only retiring at age 96.

He was always good natured, patient and kind. An icon in the town of Greece and surrounding areas. He was able to expand to Henrietta and further east to the Dewey/Latta Road shops. Also, throughout his career he owned and operated a pizza place, and put Rochester’s first health club all under the same roof at Ridgecrest Plaza.

BOXER

At the age of 15, he started boxing on the side. Coming from a poor family and recovering from the Great Depression, he worked three jobs after school. The boxing was challenging and kept him fit. Boxing was looking to be his long time goal. Four years of boxing at Edison Tech in the Lightweight Class 136-140 weight, he found his name in the winning corner of the Democrat & Chronicle repeatedly. In 1941, with a 36-3 record, he earned his shot in the “Elks Club Championship”. An outdoor fight at Red Wing Stadium, with a crowd of 10,000 people, he won the “Golden Gloves” Championship for Lightweight Division.

In April 2019, Angelo was inducted into the Adult Recreation Association in Greece, NY.

With so many accomplishments through the years, he has truly been an inspiration for his family, past and now. So much was given for little in return. Respectful, humble, generous, kind, trustworthy, strong, and loving.
