Our family is heartbroken to announce the passing of Carmelo Sciabbarra. He was the kind-hearted patriarch of our family.
Predeceased by his parents Salvatore and Maria Assunta and three siblings Gerlando, Rosetta and Salvatore. Carmelo is survived by his beloved wife, Carmela, his children Sam (Mary Ann) and Maria Assunta (Fred), grandchildren Daniela, Alexis, Jessica, Christian, Ian and Dallas, sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and his sister Maria in Italy.
Carmelo was born in Sicily. He became a tailor at the young age of 19. In the meantime he also met a young lady by the name of Carmela. He knew early on that he wanted to marry her and so he pursued her. And in 1962 they married. Carmelo immigrated to Rochester with his young wife and 3 year old son in 1966 by way of Hickey Freeman which was in search of tailors and seamstresses. That’s how roots sprouted and took hold in Rochester. In later years he worked for Delco Products / Valeo. Strong friendships were made. Friends who became as close as family. Family and friends will hold on to many memories… years of Holiday celebrations, weekends together, day trips to Hamlin Beach and Niagara Falls. Most recently were our Saturday lunches with the family where discussions led to new revelations of what was happening in our lives and we laughed at the stories told by the grandchildren. He truly loved his family, friends, and all things Italian and Sicilian. His grandchildren brought him so much joy and the love he had for his wife was unwavering and remains eternal.
