It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Michael Baker Sr., who departed this life on December 26, 2024.
Born on March 12, 1938, in Rochester, New York, David lived a life defined by dedication, love, and service. David met his high school sweetheart, Janet, and the two married shortly after graduation, embarking on a lifelong journey together. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Quartermaster, Petty Officer Third Class, from 1955 to 1963. David was in active service in the US Navy from 1955-57 and in the US Naval Reserves from 1957-63. Following his military service, David pursued a career as a Master Plumber, eventually founding Baker Mechanical Systems, Inc. in 1984. His son David Jr. joined him at the company's inception, followed by his youngest son Randy in 1987. Today, Baker Mechanical remains a thriving family-owned business - a testament to David's vision and leadership. David was a quiet and respected leader in his community. He was a devoted husband to Janet, a loving father to his three children- David Jr., Jill, and Randal-and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. His kindness and steadfast support touched the lives of many who were fortunate enough to know him.
David is predeceased by his son Randal and is survived by his beloved wife Janet; his son David Jr. (Susan); his daughter Jill Valle(William), his daughter-in-law Christine Baker-Marriage (Rob); ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; special godson; and his sister Sharon Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held on January 11 at 10:00 a.m. at. St Thomas the Apostle Church at 4536 St Paul Blvd, Rochester, NY 14617. Interment and military honors to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
David’s legacy of love, hard work, and family devotion will continue to inspire all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those he leaves behind. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Pluta Cancer Foundation in David’s memory.
