Greece, NY: December 9, 2015 at age 85 of Rochester, NY. Died in his home surrounded by his family. David was born May 4, 1930 in Lockport, NY to Seaward Alwyn and Gertrude Sand. He was predeceased by parents and brothers, Dr. Alwyn, Kenneth, Robert and Paul; as well as his wife, Margaret Neville Sand of Lewiston, NY. He was married to Margaret Neville on August 11th 1956.
David is survived by his sister, Gwendolyn and children, Sharyl (William) Carow of Fanwood, NJ., Laurel (Jeffrey) Setzer of Rochester, NY and Steven (Lisa predeceased) Sand of Whitesboro, NY; his 7 grandchildren, Max, Alex and Zack Carow, Austin and Maggie Setzer, Cassidy and Brenden Sand.
David graduated in 1948 from Niagara Falls H.S. He went to Jackson Junior State College, where he played basketball and then graduated from the University of Buffalo Dental School in 1956. He was a 1st Lt. Officer in the Army from 1956-1958 in El Paso, TX. He was a practicing Dentist for 60 years. Starting in 1958 in Spencerport, NY and soon relocated his practice and residence to Greece, NY Until his retirement in 2009. He was a member of the 7th District Dental Society.
In addition to his dental career, David was a avid golfer, member of Ridgemont Country Club from 1961-2008. He was a hardworking individual who loved being outside, skiing, sailing, camping, traveling and passionate about staying active. He was a member of Greece Rotary Club for many years. He had many loyal friends and devoted patients. David passed away peacefully in his home. He will be remembered as an exceptional Dentist, a loving husband and father.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 12th 4:00PM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3450 Ridge Rd. W., Rochester, NY 14626. All are welcome to attend and celebrate David's life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation towards the tree planting at Trinity Episcopal Church in David's name.
