Ellen Stewart

Ellen Margaret Stewart of Rochester and Sodus Point NY died Monday, June 24, 2019, at home at the age of 71.

She was born April 16, 1948, the daughter of the late William and Margaret Stewart.

Ellen worked as a supervisor in the Monroe County Tax collection office until her retirement in 2008.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She spent many happy days tending to her cottage on Sodus Point sharing her passion for lakeside living. Ellen also was a great lover of pets especially her cat, Oliver.

Ellen was an eternal student of culture and life and was an inquisitive person. She was always quick to make friends with anyone she met and shared her sweet and kind personality with everyone.

Ellen was the proud mother of her only son, Jesse Edmond. She was very close with her immediate and extended family, making time for siblings and cousins and keeping track of the family news. When Ellen was helping others she was her happiest.

She is survived by her son Jesse (Kristen) Edmond of Fairport, NY, her three siblings William (Claudia) Stewart of Boise, ID, Mary Jean (Alan) Matula of Indio, CA, James (Barbara) Stewart of Hilton, NY, and her nieces and nephews, Scott (Stephanie) Matula of Alameda, CA, Heather Matula (Ben Henwood) of Los Angeles, CA, and Tiffany Matula (Erik Rhey) of Los Angeles, CA, as well as many cousins and friends.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents William and Margaret Stewart, as well as her sister Cathleen Stewart.

A private burial was held Friday, June 28, 2019, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester NY. She was cared for by Farrell-Ryan Funeral Home.
