Elmer C. Henretta

Passed away December 5, 2021. He is predeceased by his wife Dr. Carol Bieck Henretta. Survived by his children Deb (Sean Murray), Michael (Lisa Marino), Mark (Joan Graham); grandchildren Caitlin (David Pyrak), Connor, Shannon, Carolyn (Brian) McPike, Johanna, Sarah, & Sean; great-granddaughter Chloe; sister-in-law Marlene "Mickey" (Greg) Gargan; nephew Chris (Lori) Gargan; niece Stacey (Ryan) Clemens; life long friends Harry Williams, Gene Drexel, & Jack Palvino.

Elmer was a graduate of St. Ambrose, Aquinas Institute, and St. Bonaventure University. He started his career as an English teacher in the West Irondequoit School District and then spent the remainder of his more than 30 years of teaching in the Rochester City School District. During his tenure in the Rochester City School District, he was very involved in the Rochester Teacher's Association as a building representative, lead negotiator, and longtime president of the Rochester Teacher's Association. In his role as president, he made significant gains and advances for teachers in terms of salary and benefits. He was called upon to assist in other school districts to help with negotiations. He also served as a representative to the National Education Association (NEA) and New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) organizations. He was a long time parishioner of Our Mother of Sorrows Church where he and his beloved wife, Carol, helped lead the parish sports program for many years.

Calling hours will be held 4-7 Friday, December 17 at Farrell-Ryan Funeral Home, 777 Long Pond Road. Funeral mass 10:30 Saturday, December 18 at Our Mother of Sorrows Church 5000 Mt. Read Blvd followed by interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester.
