Gerald “Jerry” Monti died peacefully at the age of 84 surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his parents Americo ”Matty” and Evelyn Monti and many Aunts and Uncles. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 and a half years Lucille, Daughters Ann Marie (David) Swilley and Lisa (Chris) Sommer, Grandchildren- Jordan, Zachary, Nicole and Laura, Sisters Marie (Ron) Bartoo and Cindy (Andy) Rialdi, Brother-in-Law Sam (Gail) Cali, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He met his wife Lucille on blind date on Thanksgiving 1960. Two years later they were married in October and spent 62 years together. They resided in Greece for the majority of their marriage and had 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren and countless close friends.
Jerry earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indianna Tech where he was a founding father of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity.
In his career, he was part of the team that developed the first hard contact lens at Bausch and Lomb. He worked many jobs involving lenses and telescopes, in the optics field.
He loved spending time fishing and vacationing at Christie Lake Canada every year with his family. Jerry’s other hobby included model trains. Jerry’s love of trains came from his father’s career of working on the railroad. Jerry was proud of the model set he built and loved to share it with anyone who venture into the basement.
Calling hours will be held 4-6 PM Wednesday, April 2 at Farrell-Ryan Funeral & Cremation Services concluding with a funeral service at 6 PM.
