On Sunday, January 8, James H. Swartwout Jr. passed away at the age of 94. Predeceased by his parents, James Swartwout and Emily Johnson Swartwout, his beloved wife, Jean Sypek Swartwout, his brother, John Swartwout, sister-in-law Angela Spado Swartwout, father-in-law and mother-in-law Maryan and Anna Sypek and by his brothers-in-law Richard, Frederick and Raymond Sypek.
Jim was a Sergeant in the US Air Force serving in Korea. He was employed by RCA and Xerox Corporation for 23 years which fostered a great love of planning and organizing as well as leading, supporting and helping others to be successful. Jim was a faith-filled man with a great devotion to God and the Catholic Church.
Jim was a devoted son, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He is survived by his son, Thomas Swartwout, daughter, Mary Martell and son-in-law Daniel Martell and six grandchildren, Sara (Keith) Dahlin, Daniel Swartwout, Matthew (Kristin) Martell, Laura (Thomas) Sulyma, Jeremy Martell and Zachary Martell. He was blessed with three great grandchildren, Max Cameron Martell, Gemma Claire Martell and Ryanne Amelia Sulyma, a loving niece, Debbie (Rich) Matusiak, great niece and nephew Jerrod and Jocelyn Matusiak, his dear friend Betty Holmes, his faithful friend Indiana and many other friends and family members.
His funeral mass will be held at St. Rita Church in Webster on Saturday, January 21st at 10 AM. A separate burial will be held in Utica this summer for both Jean and Jim. No flowers, please. Donations may be made in memory of Jim and Jean Swartwout to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
