John Holihan
Rochester - John had a very long and active life and passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 30, 2108 after a brief illness.
He is predeceased by his wife of sixty years, Marguerite and his brother Leo. He is survived by his cousins; Mary Lou (Paul) Helberg, Jack (Kay) Quinn, Tom (Kathleen) Barry (Ireland) , Ron Timmons, other family members in Rochester and Arizona, especially Kathy Timmons, and many dear friends especially Bernadette Sweeney and Bill ( Carol ) Baker.
He graduated from Edison Tech in 1944. John served in the infantry in the Philippines in World War II from 1944-46 and was awarded the bronze star. He truly enjoyed his trip to Washington, DC on the Honor Flight and was overwhelmed at the recognition he received. He was Past Commander of VFW Post #8948.
He retired from the US Postal Service from the personnel department after more than 40 years of service. John spent many winters with Marguerite visiting her family in Arizona.
Friends may call on Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 2:30- 6:00 PM at the Funeral Home 777 Long Pond Road ( between English and Latta). Funeral Mass on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Ann's Chapel, 1500 Portland Ave. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
