Greene, NY: Kenneth James Doyle, age 87, of Greene, NY (formerly of Rochester, NY, and Asheville, NC), passed away May 20th in his own home in the company of family. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Jane Adele Lovell Doyle, and their daughter, Linda Jane Penders. He is survived by daughters, Debbie (Jim) Schmitt, Ellen (John) Benson, Patty Lusk, and Sally (Chuck) Papke, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren, his sister, Verna Peters, and many nieces and nephews. After high school, Ken served in the Army Air Forces from 1944 until after the end of the war. He attended the University of Rochester, and worked at The Ritter Company (which became Ritter Sybron) for many years (in Rochester and then in Asheville, NC) until his retirement.
His interests included big band and swing music, dancing (especially the jitterbug), playing card games (bridge and spades especially), flight, astronomy and his telescope, camping, hiking, and yard work, travel, and he was always interested in movies and books, especially about World War II. He was a charter member and an avid supporter of the National World War II Museum in New Orleans.
A Celebration of His Life gathering will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 23, 2014, at The Silo Restaurant in Greene, NY.
