Linda H Briggs, 74, died peacefully at home, after a long battle with dementia. Preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Pauline Hevey, she is survived by her husband of 51 years, Allen; her children, Alicia (Fred), Christopher (Winnie), and Amy; her grandchildren, Helen, Maya, Henry, and Hannah. Siblings, Karen (Billy), Bobby (Maxey), Tim (Janet) and brother-in-law Roger, and many nieces and nephews.
Linda was born and raised in Biddeford, Maine. She attended college at the University of Maine, where she met her future husband on a blind date. After graduating, Linda and Allen settled in Rochester, New York where she started her teaching career. Once they began their family Linda became a stay at home mom and dedicated herself to her children. She was always the first one to volunteer for any activity that involved her kids, from room mom, to scout leader, and anything else that was needed. When her children were all in school full time, she resumed her career as a teacher, working for the dioceses of Rochester as a middle school teacher for 20 years where she made many cherished lifelong friends. Among her greatest joys was crossing paths with her former students and seeing how they had flourished.
For many years she was an active member of St. John's parish in Greece where she volunteered as a teacher for Sunday school, served both as a lector and eucharistic minister and prepared meals for the food ministry.
Along with her mother, Linda was a lifelong Red Sox fan. She inherited her card game skills from her father, who taught her the proper rules of cribbage and how to never throw a 7 in the crib. She passed the love of those games onto her whole family, including grandkids, who love a good game of scat! She was also an avid reader, crossword puzzle junkie, and cross stitch artist. Linda loved any opportunity to go on the hunt for a casino jackpot. She was always up for any traveling adventures, especially with her sister and close friends. Her fondest memories include the yearly family vacations to Maine and the Outer Banks where she loved relaxing on the beach having her family around.
Linda would love nothing more than for you to have a drink in her honor. Whenever you see a frog, think of her.
Special gratitude to RRH hospice services and their staff, Tammy, Jessica, and Jane for making our family's last days together so peaceful.
