Nikolaj Sobolew Jr, 90, passed away on February 25, 2025. He was born June 25, 1934, to Nickolaj and Elena Sobolew. He is predeceased by his parents, his loving wife Ludmila (Martens), his sons Alexander and Andrew, and his siblings Alexander, Lydia and Tasia.
Nikolaj was a very proud, hard-working man. He endured many trials and tribulations in his life. He endured hardship and loss during World War II, before escaping to the U.S. in 1951.
He joined the army, then started his family. In 1963, he started a thriving automotive business in Gates. He worked long hours, and then enjoyed being generous with his family and those he cared about. He was the sole care-taker for his wife during her battle with cancer. He relied heavily on his faith to sustain him in recent years.
He is survived by his son Anatol "Ski" (Sharon), his daughter in law Megan, his grandchildren Nicholas (Jessica), Paul Henry, Daniel, Josh (Brittany), Justin, Jordan, Alex, Anna and Ty, and his great grandchildren. He will be missed every day.
His funeral service will be held on March 1st, at 10 am at the Protection of the Mother of God Russian Orthodox Church, 100 Stanford Drive, Rochester. Burial to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
