Palmer, Osmond
Frederick "Ozzie"
Greece: Osmond Frederick "Ozzie" Palmer, born October 4, 1925, in Rockland, Maine, passed from this life into heaven in the early morning of December 5, 2016. Ozzie had a humble heart, a gentle, grateful spirit, and he loved God above all else. He prayed to be used by Jesus up to his last days here on earth.
Ozzie was a World War II veteran and served in Patton's Army as a sharpshooter marksman and advanced scout beginning just after his 18th birthday in 1943. His campaigns included time in action in Rhineland, Central Europe, and Ardennes. Due to illness, he finished his tour after healing as a Finance Clerk until his honorable discharge in 1946.
His career as an Engineering Physicist with Hawkeye and Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY began just after college graduation in 1950 and spanned nearly four decades. He was an integral part in many early patent projects and processes that brought Kodak to the forefront of the film and print industry. Through his work, advances in Kodak's low light film photography and print processing were advanced to a high degree of success.
He was also a founding member of West Side Baptist Church (now Journey Christian Church) in Greece, NY. His involvement & dedication to not only the construction of the original church, but also to beginning and leading the Christian Service Brigade program at West Side was instrumental in developing strong lives of faith in young men throughout all of Western New York.
He had an unfailing commitment and years of service to Camp Hickory Hill and their ministries. Whether on the Board of Directors; or more subtly behind the scenes; he was instrumental in maintaining the programs, facilities, and grounds to ensure and enhance a positive experience for all campers and staff.
As a talented musician, he was known for his strong tenor voice and joyful involvement in many choirs, quartets, and other singing opportunities. Known to all as a gifted handyman, he was always willing to help anyone in need. He will surely be missed most by those who knew him best.
Ozzie was preceded in death by Shirlene, his beloved wife of 67 years. He is also dearly loved and missed by all of his remaining family and friends, including his sons; Mark (Janet), Scott (Deborah), Brian; daughter, Kim (Edward) Liebrand; 7 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
All are welcome to pay their respects and support for the family on Friday from 2-4:30pm and 6-8pm at Farrell-Ryan Funeral Home, 777 Long Pond Road in Greece. A celebration of his life will be held at 11am Saturday at Journey Christian Church, 3955 Mt. Read Blvd. Private Interment. In his memory, contributions may be made to Christian Service Brigade or Camp Hickory Hill of Western NY.
