Richard David Finewood-Passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024 surrounded by the love and prayers of his family.
Richard was predeceased by his beautiful wife Sheila in 2022, daughter Ann Rhoades in 2005, parents Leonard and Lillian Finewood and brothers Robert and Donald. Survived by children, Paul Finewood (Debbie), Louise Lessard (Michel), Susan Choma (Gene), Helen Peregrim (Gary), Martin Finewood (Debbie) and Julia Standera (Brian). Richard leaves behind many loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
As a teen, Richard earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting, snowmobiling and sailing throughout his long and storied life. He was proud to serve in the US Marine Corps, stationed in NC with his young family. He was a great storyteller, mostly telling stories of the shenanigans he and his pals would find themselves in the middle of. He was a gifted craftsman and enjoyed working in his shop creating lamps, clocks and furniture. He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading about the Adirondacks and woodworking. He also loved going through cookbooks and cooking up some great big meals using every single pot and pan in the kitchen. Many will remember Richard with a kitchen towel slung over his shoulder, standing over the stove cooking and socializing. His great big laugh and sense of humor will be sorely missed. He and Sheila were married for over 67 years and he loved her beyond measure. To quote Abraham Lincoln, "The best thing a man can do for his children is love their mother." Thank you Mom & Dad for giving us a great example of what a loving and devoted marriage looks like.
Richard & Sheila not only shared a deep and devoted love for each other, but also their family and their Catholic faith. Their lifelong faith always guided them throughout their wonderful life together. We have faith their souls are now united in everlasting life.
A special thank you to the staff of Episcopal Senior Life Communities at Brentland Woods where Richard resided for the last four years. They were a great match for his fun-loving personality in a caring environment.
