Sheila A. Finewood
Rochester - Sheila Ann Finewood (O'Brien) Rochester – Passed away peacefully on February 17, 2022 at the age of 87 surrounded by loved ones. Sheila spent the last year of her life lovingly cared for at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Louise & Michel Lessard. With love and joy in our hearts and hers, she was prayed over, sung to and fussed over to her very last breath.
Sheila was born to Dr. Arthur O'Brien and Mary Frances Jones O'Brien, RN in 1935, the youngest of 5 children. She grew up on Magee Avenue in our beloved 10th Ward neighborhood in Rochester, NY. She attended Sacred Heart Cathedral School and Nazareth Academy. Sheila wed Richard Finewood in 1954 at the age of 19 and were married for 67 years. Together, they raised 7 children and still managed to prioritize their time together as a couple. They were unapologetically each other's sweethearts and it was a true love story to behold.
In addition to her parents, Sheila is predeceased by her daughter, Ann Finewood Rhoades, sister Claire Baynes Garry, brothers Arthur O'Brien and James O'Brien. Survived by loving husband, Richard. Children Paul Finewood (fiance Debbie – children Karen, Katie, Jennifer, Rebecca), son-in-law Bernard Rhoades (children Bernie, Sheila, Michelle), Louise Lessard (husband Michel – children Matthew, Benjamin, Rebecca, Emily), Susan Choma (husband Gene – children Veronica, Stephen, Andrew), Helen Peregrim (husband Gary – children Joshua, Monica, Jacob, Noah), Martin Finewood (wife Debbie – children Jessica Finewood, Jeffrey, Jason, Jessica Thibaut), Julia Standera (husband Brian – children Carlene, Abigail, Danielle). Sheila is also survived by 22 great grandchildren and her treasured 96 year old sister, Virginia Swanton of Cincinnati, OH. As the oldest sibling, Ginny would often refer to herself as the steam engine and Sheila, being the youngest, as the caboose.
A special thank you to the staff of Ontario-Yates Hospice for their care, support and compassion shown to our dear mother and our entire family during this time.
