Thomas L. Harris

On Friday, January 13, Thomas Harris passed away at the age of 88. Tom is predeceased by his brothers, Baby Michael and Ken; brother-in law, Harry Shafer; and son-in-law, Terry Rickard.

Tom was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather, uncle and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary; daughters Karen Rickard, Katherine Miller, Julie (John) Alliet; son, Thomas (Michael) Harris; grandchildren Debbie (Joe) Waidl, Michael (Crystal) Rickard, Jason (Erynn) Miller, John (Jessica) Alliet, Sean (Bridget) Rickard, Stacey Miller and Melissa (Jason) Burdick; 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Don (Betty) Harris; sister, Michele Shafer; sister-in-law, Carrie Harris and many nieces and nephews.

After graduation from high school, Tom served in the Army followed by a 6 year apprenticeship at Gannett Newspaper in his hometown of Binghamton. The family moved to Hilton when Gannett transferred Tom to the Rochester location where he retired after 42 years. After retirement from full time work, Tom worked at Ridgemont County Club in the Pro Shop. Tom loved to socialize and could start a conversation with anyone.

His greatest love and devotion was to his wife, his children and his extended family. He could usually be found with a little one on his lap or playing with the older grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held 4 to 6 PM on Friday, January 20, at Farrell-Ryan Funeral Home at 777 Long Pond Road, concluding with a Military Honors Service at 6 PM. The memorial service will be at 1 PM on Saturday, January 21, at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 158 East Avenue, Hilton.
