Our family was fortunate to reside next door to the Knotts in my childhood years. My sister Joyce & I always referred to Mr. and Mrs. Knott as Aunt Nancy & Uncle Bud but we were not related by family bonds. I do not recall how this transpired but surely this had to be, in my child's eye, the congeniality of Vicki & Jill's parents. Aunt Nancy's warm disposition, her welcoming laugh - which I remember now as I write this - her watchful eye as neighbor kids roamed around her yard (the front porch served as the safe/home zone for kick-the-can & hide 'n seek) all contributed to making her a great neighbor. She gave me a gracious reminder after a few noisy, exuberant play incidents that I could be more courteous toward my childhood playmates of 4 girls (Vicki, Jill, Kim & my sister). Although...... it could be construed I was outnumbered 4 to 1.
